Embrace the Light Charity Golf Tournament: A Triumph for Mental Health Awareness
August 31, 2024
On Saturday, August 17, 2024, The Luke Cyr Foundation held its Embrace the Light Charity Golf Tournament in Petawawa, ON. This marked another successful step in its mission to support mental health initiatives. The event brought together community members, volunteers, and supporters for a day of golf, camaraderie, and fundraising.
The tournament, meticulously planned and executed by Steve and Melissa Ogilvie, featured 17 four-person teams, totaling 68 golfers. With a lineup of exciting activities and generous contributions, the event proved to be both enjoyable and impactful.
Highlights of the Day
The competition was fierce, but in the end, the team led by Mark Sandburg emerged victorious, finishing with an impressive score of -14. The excitement didn’t stop there, as one lucky participant, Rhea, won a coveted trip to Cabot, including a 2 night stay at Cabot Cottages and a round at Cabot Cliffs and Cabot Links.
Participants were treated to a slice of pizza, generously donated by Milano Pizza Petawawa, adding a delicious touch to the day’s activities. In addition to the on-course excitement, 22 local businesses stepped up as hole sponsors, showcasing the community’s strong support for the Foundation’s cause.
Raising Awareness and Funds
The tournament wasn’t just about the fun of the game; it was a significant fundraising effort, with over $11,000 raised to further the Foundation’s mission of raising awareness and supporting mental health and wellness, particularly for those suffering from PTSD.
Community Engagement
The event also attracted media attention, with coverage from myFM Pembroke. Melissa and Luke took the opportunity to go live on air both before and after the tournament, further spreading the word about the Foundation’s mission and the success of the event.
A Word of Thanks
The Foundation extends its heartfelt thanks to all who contributed, including the volunteers whose dedication ensured the day ran smoothly. Special acknowledgment goes to the hole sponsors whose generosity was instrumental in the event’s success:
