About Luke Cyr

Luke Cyr is the author of the poetry found on this website and is a retired Canadian Armed Forces member.

Luke Anthony Cyr was born and grew up in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario. He is one of four boys that were raised by parents Lorraine Sherwin and Michael Cyr. Luke graduated from high school in 1998 and joined the Canadian Armed Forces in January of 1999 at 18 years of age. While serving in the military, Luke went on four operational tours – once to Bosnia, and three times to Afghanistan. Luke was forced to retire from the military due to physical and mental injuries he sustained overseas.

Still to this day, Luke struggles with mental health issues, but uses various techniques he has learned, coupled with a passion for life to help himself cope with those personal struggles. As part of his recovery Luke attended the Caddy School for Soldiers, based in St. Andrews, Scotland in early 2022. The Caddie School offers training in which each veteran is able to leave their real-world responsibilities behind to learn the skills needed to find work as a caddie. The hope is for these veterans to find some healing and relaxation while also finding a new belief in themselves as they complete their training. For Luke the Caddie School was of great benefit. When he returned Canada, he traveled to Cape Breton and began to caddie at the famed Cabot Links and Cabot Cliffs golf courses. Luke is looking forward to returning to Nova Scotia in 2023 to resume his caddie career.

During the “off season”, Luke has been keeping himself busy by working to set up this website, and to set up a charitable foundation to help others. Besides his career goals of caddying, his personal goal is to help anyone who is struggling with mental health issues; to help them find hope and purpose in their own lives. Luke said, “My goal with this website and the foundation I’m forming, is to help people who struggle with mental health. I want to help everyone who, like myself, struggles with coping from day-to-day; and questions if suicide is the only option. I want to help steer people away from the darkness and allow them to embrace the light once again.”
