A Story of Healing, Purpose, and the Power of a Second Chance

Before Steve Ogilvie found the Caddie School for Soldiers, he was struggling. The weight of years of unaddressed trauma had dimmed his outlook, strained his relationships, and left him unsure of his path forward. “I used to wake up not knowing what the next bound was for Steve Ogilvie,” he recalls. The pain he carried didn’t just affect him—it affected his family. His wife Melissa, who had watched the toll it was taking on both Steve and their home life, made the difficult decision to ask him to leave in order to begin the journey of healing.

What came next changed everything.

In October 2022, Steve enrolled in the Caddie School for Soldiers, a program supported by The Luke Cyr Foundation. That opportunity, he says, “changed my life drastically.” From the moment he was picked up at the airport by a warm and caring staff member, Steve began to feel something he hadn’t in a long time—hope. The mentorship, camaraderie, and structured support of the program helped him rebuild his confidence, one step at a time. “Every step I took, I felt more and more confident within myself… Those steps then turned into days. Each day was getting bigger and better.”

By the end of the course, Steve wasn’t just a trained caddie—he was a transformed man. “I looked at myself in the mirror one morning and it was nothing but positive praise. I remember saying: ‘Well done, Steve Ogilvie. Look where you were and look where you are today.’”

Melissa saw the difference, too. “It turned everything around,” she says. “Steve has found his footing. He’s coaching again, he’s going to be an instructor at the Caddie School—it’s remarkable.”

The Luke Cyr Foundation was instrumental in making that healing possible. By supporting programs like the Robbie Dean Centre and the Caddie School for Soldiers, the Foundation creates real avenues for recovery, connection, and purpose. “The work Luke is doing is remarkable,” Steve says. “He’s saving lives, one day at a time—and I’ll be with him every step of the way.”

Steve’s story is one of redemption, courage, and the quiet power of believing that healing is possible—even after the darkest seasons. And it’s a story made possible, in part, by the work of The Luke Cyr Foundation.
